Thompson Hanks, tuba (1967 - 1985) 
b. 1941, Beaumont, TX
Thompson Hanks studied at the Eastman School of Music and Tanglewood Berkshire Music Center. His teachers included Arnold Jacobs. He was a member of the New York City Ballet Orchestra from 1967-1999. His orchestral experience also includes American Composers Orchestra, Casals Festival Orchestra, Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, and the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to the New York Brass Quintet, Hanks has performed with a number of other prominent chamber music groups including the New York Tuba Quartet, American Brass Quintet, Chamber Society of Lincoln Center.
His faculty appointments include Chair of the brass department at Manhattan School of Music, as well as appointments at Yale University School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, New England Conservatory, Mannes College of Music, Hartt School of Music, and New College Music Festival.
